Aged eucalyptus
As a result of the problem caused by the inclusion of dalbergias in CITES Appendix 2, Madinter began to look for alternatives that could replace the dalbergias that have been used for years in the music industry with guarantees. The objective was to find a wood with the same density, hardness and colour.
We focused exclusively on finding a wood with the same density and hardness and found it at home in Spain. The eucalyptus, Eucalytus globulus.
This tree is one of the most relevant forest wood species in the Iberian Peninsula, so we find in it a sustainable resource, unlimited, with a stable price and absolute guarantees of legality.
Eucalyptus has the ideal characteristics of density and hardness but it is a light pale yellow wood which, due to its colour, is difficult to use in the manufacture of guitars.
After a year and a half of research we have created a stable product, with a very attractive color, very close to dalbergias.
How do we do it?
We subjected the wood to perfect drying and then to a treatment with ammonia gas at high pressure to penetrate the entire structure of the wood. This gas reacts with the tannic acid that the wood has naturally in its structure and produces a chemical reaction that produces a stable and permanent color throughout the depth of the pieces.
Therefore we can produce fingerboards, bridges and other guitar parts with the appearance, density, hardness and color of the dalbergias in large quantities and at a very competitive price, a product easy to work and very stable.
